Phoenix Ladies 6 Headless Cross Ladies 0 AFTER taking an early lead, Phoenix went on to record a comfortable win against their Redditch-based opponents and stay on top of the West Midlands League Division 1 South table.

Emily Gilbert headed them into an early lead to set up a one-way first half which saw them 4-0 ahead at the break. Laura Davies rounded off a five-pass move to grab the second, Charlotte Criddle scored the goal of the game and Rebecca Edwards pounced on a rebound for her first goal of the season.

They eased off in the second half, but apart from conceding one missed penalty late on, were rarely threatened. In contrast they fired home their two penalties, Davies and Gilbert sharing the spot-kicking duties after Davies had been upended twice.

Phoenix under-16s put up a brave performance before conceding late goals to go down 4-0 at home to Derby County.

Leominster Town Ladies bowed out of the Kidderminster Hospital Cup when they lost 3-0 at Burlish Olympic.
