Presteigne 1 Newtown Reserves 2 AFTER playing with 10 men for the last hour and coming from a goal behind, Presteigne's brave fight to gain something from this Spar Mid Wales League game was dashed when Newtown scrambled a winning goal in the closing moments.
A confident Newtown side seized the initiative in the eighth minute when Richard Evans volleyed home Robbie Dean's deep cross. Dean was a constant threat down the left flank, and with better finishing could have added to the score.
The 28th minute proved to be a pivotal point of the game, the home keeper was sent off for a foul outside of his area, leaving Ben Bevan to fill-in in goal. He saved the free-kick to kick start a Presteigne fight-back.
Ironically it was the Reserves keeper who had to make two spectacular saves, both from Liam Jones, to protect their lead.
The home side were back on level terms within minutes of the restart, Darren Jones firing home the penalty after Luke Boundford was brought down.
Darren Jones might have gained another penalty, and Chris Goode had an effort disallowed, but it came to nothing as Newtown grabbed the late winner.
