KINGTON Town went to the top of the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division with a narrow 2-1 win over Westfields Reserves at allpay.park.
Kington got away to a flyer, taking the lead within the first five minutes. Robbie Gore's cross was only half cleared and Jamie Williams pounced on the loose ball. The rest of the first half was evenly contested with scoring opportunities at a premium.
The second half started like the first, Kington stretching their lead when Williams again prodded home after Joe Mayglothling's shot was deflected across goal.
Westfields piled on the pressure in the closing stages, forcing several corners, but the Town defence only conceded once, substitute Wes Owen scoring at the back post.
Sutton United are tucked in behind the leading pair, with games in hand, after demolishing Ledbury Town Reserves 7-0 at their New Street headquarters.
United played some scintillating football and led 3-0 at the break with the goals shared between Derek Craddock, Ben Chambers and an own goal.
There was no relief for the overworked Town defence in the second half as Craddock and Chambers found the net again, and were joined on the score-sheet by the in-form Danny Hill and Craig Morgan.
Chris Breakwell scored all the goals as Woofferton beat visiting reigning champions Wellington Rangers 5-3.
Wellington took the lead when Scott Walker slid the ball home as the home defence hesitated. Breakwell enjoyed a purple patch midway through the first half, firing in a hat-trick inside 10 minutes.
Eddie Wells put Rangers back in the picture with a header, but Breakwell ended the half by adding a fourth.
Wellington were rejuvenated after the break, but soon found themselves 5-2 down as Breakwell smashed in his fifth goal. Undeterred, they pulled a goal back and again it was a Wells header. The visitors were on top but failed to add to their tally.
Bartestree's wayward finishing cost them the chance of claiming their first win of the season and they had to settle for a point from a 2-2 home draw with Colwall Rangers.
Their finishing seemed the least of their problems as Rangers went 2-0 up in the first quarter. The first was a hotly-disputed penalty converted by Scott Roberts, the second a picture goal as Jamie Welch deftly hooked the ball over the advancing Steve Bell in the home goal.
Jeff Godson pulled a goal back when he just managed to beat the despairing dive of Adam McTear with a shot during a melee.
Bartestree threw caution to the wind in the second half, Matt Aubrey and Les Bryant getting into good positions, but then failing to find the target.
Alan Horsfield did better when Aubrey squared the ball to him to grab an equaliser, but the home side still needed Bell to produce a stunning finger-tip save to protect the point.
