RADNOR Valley secured a piece of club history when they won the Radnorshire Cup for the first ever time.

The county cup was launched in the 1963/64 season and the Rams had previously made two cup finals beaten in both the1964/65 and 1971/72 campaigns.

On the other hand their final opponents Knighton Town had won the cup 10 times- including beating Radnor in 1971/72.

However, it was to be third time lucky for Radnor on Sunday with Steve Morgan's 47th minute header separating the sides.

"Words can’t describe how proud I am of every Radnor player and they deserve this cup and the celebrations which followed," said manager Paul Morgan.

"Ever player I could bang on how good they were but a special mention has to go Ieuan Price after being out injured since Boxing Day and starting and performing at a high level.

"He along with Elliot Morris who have been with Radnor since they played in the Mid Wales South League and were true leaders."

Radnor striker Shaun Prince saw his volley from the edge of the penalty area blocked in the 36th minute before his fellow front man Declan Beddoes headed wide at the far post as they made their intentions clear.

They eventually broke the deadlock four minutes after the interval when Steve Morgan headed home after the Knighton Town defence had failed to clear an initial corner.

At the opposite end Dan Farmer shot wide from close range on the hour mark before Goats goalkeeper Will Fowden was forced to turn away a deep free-kick.

Sam Williams saw his 20 yard effort fly over the crossbar in the 83rd minute before Radnor Valley substitute Matt Croose fired straight at Joe Prosser on the turn in the final minute.
