NEW SIGNING Oliver Davies left promotion rivals Merthyr Town and asked for a move to Edgar Street, Pete Beadle has revealed.

The 22-year-old impressed at the South Wales club during the second half of last season helping them to a third place finish in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier.

However, following the departure of Alex Harris to Gloucester City the young shot stopper contacted Bulls manager Beadle enquiring about a potential move over the border.

"We heard about some of his performances and I'm sure Merthyr will be disappointed to lose him," said Beadle.

"Oliver made contact with us as we had presumed that he was going to stay at Merthyr.

"I'm delighted he got in touch and is now part of our squad. We are pleased to have potentially one of the best goalkeepers in the area. He will bring competition for selection and it will be a real tough challenge to pick a starting goalkeeper. It's important to have two goalkeeper to compete and push each other for selection.

"He's a new style goalkeeper and can play with his feet as well which suits the way we play. Oliver is looking forward to the challenge and wants to get back into full-time football.

"There potentially could be one more signing yet but it's still a way off."

Davies started his career at Swansea helping them lift the under-21 Development League Two title before going to Kilmarnock on loan.

A day after his arrival at Edgar Street it was revealed that Beadle's side will hosts Cardiff in a pre-season friendly on July 26.

"I'm sure Oliver will be looking forward to that one if he plays a part in it," added Beadle.

"We had a free date in our diary after being let down and spoke to a couple of people and the Cardiff game came up.

"They were available and looking for another game as they go to Shrewsbury on Tuesday and those that don't play in that game will probably play against us on the Wednesday. Whether it's an under-23 or a mixture team it's going to be a tough game. People always look for the big names which catches their interest."
