NEW signing Jack Deaman says it was a 'perfect fit' to join Hereford FC and he wants to ensure the Bulls claim another promotion.

Deaman has played in the Football League for Cheltenham Town and joins the Bulls from National League South side Gloucester City.

He said that Gloucester manager Tim Harris offered him a contract to stay at the club, but he had already spoken to Bulls boss Pete Beadle and he wants to be part of what is happening at Edgar Street.

"If you ask anyone, Hereford are regarded as a Football League club and that is shown by the support they get – it's hard to turn them down," said Deaman, who has also been on the books at Birmingham City.

"Some people may think it's a negative dropping down a league, but I see it as a positive.

"I had a few offers from other clubs that were higher up than Hereford, but after weighing it all up, I decided that dropping down a league was the right thing to do because I can see the progress that the club is making.

"It is something I want to be part of and I want to jump on the rollercoaster.

"Peter told me had he tracked me for a while and because they have been promoted twice, I thought it was the right time to join the club.

"I live in Cheltenham, so it's not too far away, so it's the perfect fit."

Deaman added that the target for next season has to be another promotion.

"Some players may be more level headed, but Hereford's and mine is to get another promotion and that is why I joined the club," he said.

The 6ft 3ins 24-year-old has described himself as a 'footballing defender' who can also play at full-back or as a holding midfielder.

"I have settled into a centre-half, but I played full-back when I was at Birmingham City and can play anywhere along the back four," said Deaman.

"I've often been described as a footballing centre-back and I think that is why Peter came in for me.

"For the last couple of seasons I have played at Conference North and South and a really big part of the game is being able to play from the back.

"But I know I'm a defender and my job is to defend.

"However the advantage of being tall is that I've got a fairly long stride and I'm reasonably quick.

"I've also got a good engine, so can play as a holding midfielder."
