A HEREFORD photographer has seen his work rewarded at a Cardiff ceremony aimed at celebrating grassroots football in Wales ahead of Saturday's Champions League Final.

Will Cheshire, who volunteers at Hereford FC, picked up the prize in the over-16s on the pitch category in the 'This is Welsh Football' competition.

His photograph was taken during a match between Garw S.B.G.C and Trebanog in the South Wales League.

A Garw player went down injured in the final minute, which led to a supporter coming on to lend a hand with his cramp.

However, his dog also came on the pitch to try and help.

Ian Rush – who is Wales' all-time leading scorer with 28 goals – was at the ceremony and described the photo as 'football in a nutshell'.

"I've only been a photographer for just over 18 months and to be honest only really done it seriously over the last 12 months thanks to the opportunity that Abergavenny offered me," said Cheshire.

"Never in a million years did I think I would make the top three, let alone win."

Cheshire was presented with a ticket for the Champions League Final and a pocked camera.
