STAR player Craig Jones turned down a move to a higher-graded team because he wants to repay Westfields' faith in him.

The midfielder confirmed he was approached to play in the league above, but decided to stay at allpay.park so he can try and win the Midland Football League.

Jones had a fantastic season and picked up the players' and manager's player of the year award at a presentation dinner last Friday evening.

"For me, it's about staying at Westfields because I'm playing regularly," said Jones, who was also named supporters' player of the year.

"It's always nice to be recognised but I work for Sean [Edwards], so I have my loyalty to him and the club has always been great to me, especially when I got released by Hereford."

Jones said it was an honour to become the first Westfields player to pick up all three player-of-the-year prizes in one season.

"I did a lot of work in pre-season and ended up playing every game bar one last season," said Jones.

"I think I played 57 games, which shows that the work I did paid off and I showed a lot of commitment.

"Whether we're winning or losing, I'm still playing football and still enjoying it.

"The commitment from a number of players did drop, which was frustrating for a few of us, and I think that was our biggest downfall.

"After our FA Cup run, we got a few injuries to key players, but after Christmas we needed a bit more commitment from some players."

Sam Plane was named young player of the year, with Richard Greaves picking up the leading scorer prize.

The HFA Premier Division player of the year was Ashley Nelder, with Sam Taylor and Ollie Smith picking up the young player and leading scorer awards respectively.

Club chairman John Morgan also picked up a special award for his role at the club, especially during the historic FC Cup run.
