BARESTREE FC have applied to join the Midland Football League next season.

Dave Cadwallader's side dropped into the Herefordshire FA County League after withdrawing from the West Midlands (Regional) League last year.

Bartestree are currently second in the Premier Division and Cadwallader says the club need join another league in order to progress.

"We consolidated and went back to basics, which we needed to do, but the players need to progress and they're not going to do that in the Herefordshire League.

"In principle we have been told it's ok to join Midland League Division Three, but it has to go to an AGM.

"There are a lot more footballing sides in this league than West Midlands League Division Two.

"Montpellier have just been promoted and that is an academy run by [former Aston Villa] and England player] Lee Hendrie.

"There is an emphasis on academy football in the league and you've got teams like FC Stratford in it.

"We're ahead of ourselves and hopefully the teams will vote us in."

Last Saturday, champions Hinton lost 4-1 to Wellington Reserves, while Hereford Lads Club Reserves thumped Leominster Town 5-1.

There was one match in Division On elast night.

Wellington Colts beat Ludlow Colts 3-2.
