NEW Wellington recruit Sam Hunt says he is enjoying his football again after joining from Westfields on a dual registration deal.

Hunt previously played for Cirencester in the Southern Premier Division, but work commitments meant he joined Westfields.

However, lack of game time has now seen him link up with Wellington.

"I wanted to try and enjoy my football again rather than just turning up and maybe getting 10 minutes," said Hunt.

"I work for Oakwright Frames and even though it's based in Hereford, I end up working away a lot.

"I spoke to [Westfields manager] Sean Edwards and said if I could go to Wellington because I could see they were flying.

"It may be a step down for me, but I bring experience which hopefully benefits the team and myself."

Wellington beat AFC Bridgnorth 3-0 last Saturday to keep their hopes alive of finishing in the top three of West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division.

As reported by the Hereford Times last week, Derek Williams is stepping down as manager at the end of the season and will be replaced by current coach Gary Stevens.

Hunt believes Stevens has already had a big impact at the club.

"He brings a wealth of experience and has a good depth of knowledge," said Hunt.

"He is trying to change the style of play and trying to encourage a few youngsters to come through.

"I played under Gary for the Hereford youth team, so I think it is a positive move going forward.

"Derek has been a good servant for the club and has done really well over the years.

"I wish him well."

Wellington were without six first-team players last Saturday and handed a debut to Charlie Greenhouse in midfield.

Goalkeeper Matt Apperley made two fine saves in the first half before Wellington scored all three goals after the break.

Will Perkins opened the scoring in the 65th minute before Paul Jones lobbed the Bridgnorth keeper from distance.

Andy Price then nodded home a Matt Williams free-kick to seal the win.
