PRESTEIGNE St Andrews Football Club are beginning the search for a new first-team manager for their Spar Mid Wales League side after Tom Ammonds announced he was to step down at the end of the season.

Ammonds says it was his decision and is due largely to the growing demands of his business.

"I am becoming increasingly busy with Stitch Embroidery and so it has become difficult to give the manager's job all the time it needs," said Ammonds.

"Also, I am vice-chairman at the club and am heavily involved in committee and fund-raising events.

"I fully intend to maintain my role on the committee and think it would benefit the club in the long term if I focus more of my football club activities in this area."

Club chairman Andy Crowe said the committee had accepted Ammonds' resignation 'with great regret', but fully understands the reasons behind his decision.

"Tom is one of the leading members of the club's committee and works hard to raise funds for the club," said Crowe.

"We all have to earn a living and so it's understandable Tom wants to focus on his business.

"We are now on the look out for a new manager and we are keen to hear from anyone with the relevant experience who feels Presteigne St Andrews would offer them the right challenge.

Dale Tomkins will also step down as reserve team manager at the end of the campaign, but the club has moved swiftly to confirm Mark Weiland and Alan Stocker as joint-managers for next season.
