A HAT-TRICK from Paul Jones was not enough as Wellington had to settle for a point against Ellesmere Rangers in a high-scoring West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division game.

Ellesmere opened the scoring after 10 minutes, but Derek Williams' side soon levelled when Will Perkins found Jones at the back post.

Wellington then enjoyed the lions share of possession, but were unable to score again.

They were made to pay when the same Ellesmere player netted three minutes after the break to put his side 2-1 ahead.

Back came Welly when man-of-the-match Jones dribbled through the visitors' defence to score.

But yet again, the villagers were made to pay at the back.

A shot from distance from Ellesmere's star striker deceived Matt Apperley in the Wellington goal and he was celebrating his hat-trick.

Welly made it 3-3 thanks to a Josh Hunt header from Matt Williams' cross before the home side went in front for the first time.

A penalty was awarded and Jones sealed his hat-trick.

Wellington had opportunities to seal the win, but Hunt missed two chances and Williams one.

A deflected effort by Ellesmere's striker then went in for his fourth goal of the game as the two sides shared the spoils.

Pegasus Juniors, meanwhile, came back from Willenhall Town with a 3-2 win.

Mark Habbershaw opened the scoring for the home side six minutes in before Luke Griffiths equalised in the 28th minute.

Liam Jones then put Anthony Robbins' side into the lead two minutes before the break and Tom Boyle made it 3-1 in the 68th minute.

Habbershaw scored again a minute from time, but Peggy held on for the win.

This Saturday, Wellington go to Cradley Town while Pegasus host Stone Old Alleynians.

Kington Town are out of the Division One Cup after going down 3-1 at Tipton Town.

Callum Craddock netted Kington's consolation.

Hereford Lads Club were also due to host Newport Town in the same competition, but the match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

It will now be played this Saturday, meaning Lads Club's scheduled derby versus Bromyard Town derby will be played at a later date.

Bromyard – who had a Worcestershire Royal Infirmary Cup match at Bromsgrove Sporting Under-21s called off last Saturday – will now go to Team Dudley this weekend.
