GOALKEEPER Matt Eden came off the bench as an outfield player and scored the final goal for the villagers in a 5-0 win over Gornal Athletic in West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division.

Eden – who also plays rugby for Greyhound – tapped the ball home as Derek Williams' men rise to fourth place in the division.

"I just happened to be in the right place at the right time," said Eden.

"Dave Price did all the hard work to get the cross in and I made my run into the box to get on the end of it."

Bottom club Gornal went into the game having picked up four points from their last two games, but Welly swept them aside.

Adam Newbury found Josh Hunt to open the scoring before Matt Williams and Paul Jones went close.

Gornal couldn't get past the strong Wellington defence and Williams' side controlled the second half.

Williams and Hunt made it 3-0 before a Gornal player diverted the ball into his own net.

Eden then rounded off the scoring.

Pegasus Juniors' match against Haughmond was postponed.
