THIS season’s remarkable FA Cup success has put Westfields on the footballing map, according to chief executive Andy Morris.

His mobile phone was buzzing with text messages and calls from well-wishers during the Hereford club’s once-in-a-generation cup odyssey.

“To think we’ve played eight games in the FA Cup and lost only once is a remarkable story,” said Morris, who helped establish the club in 1966.

“People talk about the magic of the FA Cup and Westfields Football Club have experienced it.

“Nationally and internationally, everyone now knows about Westfields Football Club from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

“Everyone has been ringing us, we’ve had lots of messages and it’s not only put Westfields on the map, but it has also put the Midland League on the map.”

While Westfields’ charge to the first round of the famous competition was exciting, it has also boosted the club’s coffers.

“We won’t know what we have made for perhaps the next two or three weeks but we have made a vast amount of money, which is lovely,” said Morris. “We will certainly put it to good use.”
