SACKED Kington Town manager Shaun Harris says he was shocked to be told he was being relieved of his duties at Mill Street.

Kington have made a slow start in West Midlands (Regional) League Division One with just one win under their belt.

"It was a bit of a shock to me because I didn't see it coming," said Harris.

"The think the club feel that has gone a bit backwards this season, but we've had a lot of injuries.

"We always tend to struggle in August in getting players back and in the last three years, we've had a slow start.

"I think they've made a mistake because I back myself in any job I'm given.

"I feel disappointed that they feel they have to get rid of me in order to move forward, but I respect their decision and wish them well."

Harris added that he offered to resign after Kington were thumped 7-0 by Lads Club earlier this season, but it was turned down.

"I thought I'd fight on when they asked me how I wanted things to go," he said.

In a statement, Kington Town thanked Harris for his efforts.

"The club has progressed well under Shaun's leadership, going from the Herefordshire Premier Division to West Midlands Division One, with the highlight undoubtedly being winning the West Midlands Division Two in the 2014/15 season," it reads.

"We greatly appreciate all his hard work and wish him well for the future.

"The search of his replacement will now begin and his replacement announced in due course."
