HAY St Mary's have made a solid start to their Spar Mid-Wales League Division One campaign.

Gareth Jenkins' side beat rivals Knighton Town 2-0 in their opening match thanks to goals from Kevin Jones and Jack Biggs before drawing 2-2 at Llanidleos Town.

And Jenkins will be delighted with the result as he was without no fewer than seven who had started against Knighton.

The Saints twice led through Matty Tong and Steve Morgan but Alex Jones and Rhys Evans hit back for Llanidloes.

Knighton, who were just pipped for the title last term, have made a slow start and were well beaten 3-0 at home by Berriew last Friday night with Matt Mumford (2) and Will Gittins netting for Berriew.

Radnor Valley, in their first season in the top flight, kicked off with a 2-2 draw at Tywyn Bryncrug.

Tywyn had led 2-0 but Joey Price and debutant Tom Lewis hit back to salvage a point.

In Division Two, Josh Price grabbed a hat-trick as Builth Wells won 4-1 at Presteigne after Dave Thomas had opened the scoring.

It was Presteigne’s third defeat in as many games and player-manager, Mark Weiland has since resigned, leaving Tom Ammonds and Dale Tomkins in temporary charge.
