OUTGOING Pegasus Juniors striker Sam Pearson says he will do all he can to do well well for Evesham United after signing for the Worcestershire club.

Pearson, from Leominster, has jumped two leagues to play in Southern Football League Division One South & West – the level that Hereford FC will play at this season.

And he opened his account for his new club in a 7-0 drubbing of Littleton Town on Tuesday night.

“It’s a massive confidence boost that they wanted to sign me and I’ve got the opportunity to play for them,” said Pearson.

“It’s a lovely club and and the manager and assistant manager are top blokes.

“The set-up is lovely and the pitch is great – everyone at the club has been very welcoming.

“I think it’s going to be tough and a really hard season, but hopefully we’ll do alright.

“Evesham did well last season and are hoping to do well again.

“I’m planning on getting into the side and play some games.”

Pearson, who scored Hereford’s first ever goal in a friendly at Malvern Town last year while on trial at the Bulls, thanked Pegasus for all they have done for him.

“If it doesn’t work out then I will go back there because I love Peggy,” said Pearson.

“Everyone treats you so well there and I have had a lot of messages from the people there wishing me well.”

Pearson added that he will look forward to the Hereford games this season.

“It will be great to be involved,” he said.

“It was a brilliant experience at Hereford and I loved it there.”

Pegasus manager James Edmonds is pleased Pearson has got a chance to play at a higher level.

“He wanted to try his hand for a higher-graded team and we helped in that process,” said Edmonds.

“He has been excellent for us, especially last season when he was the top scorer in the league.

“It is always a loss when you lose players, but we would never stand in the way of any player who wants to better themself – you’ve got to look at the bigger picture.

“We just wish him all the best and hope it works out for him.”

Evesham manager Paul Collicutt said he received a phone call from Edmonds at the end of last season asking if he would have a look at Pearson.

And after speaking to his former team mate Chris Hyde, who was manager of Pegasus prior to Edmonds coming on board, Collicutt decided to see what he was like.

“I get along with Chris really well and he told me about Sam and how him and his son Cory struck up a great partnership a couple of years ago,” said Collicutt.

“I know we have got a good player, whose aim now is to break into the first team.

“It will take him time to adjust, but Rome wasn’t built in a day.

“All we are doing is giving him a chance to progress.

“One of the things that impressed me the most was his desire to better himself and he has got good hunger.”
