HEREFORD FC manager Pete Beadle praised the contributions of Rory Huntbach and Max Harris after the United in the Community (UITC) prodigies made their debuts for the Bulls in a 6-0 pre-season friendly win over Pegasus Juniors.

Both came on in the second half and Beadle said they have earned their place in the squad.

"They're here for a reason," said Beadle.

"We've seen potential in them and in the 25 minutes that Rory had and the 10 to 15 that Max had, you could see why we've signed them.

"Rory took his goal great and doesn't look out of place, bearing in mind he's only 16 and [goalkeeper] Max looked very composed when he came on and did ok."

Beadle added it was a nice to get the pre-season campaign underway.

"They have been chomping at the bit to get a game in and that is why we've had the three games quite close together to give them that little bit injection of games and get their timings," he said.

"I thought they did that well.

"We were a little bit slow in getting going, but after 10 or 15 minutes, we got into a bit of rhythm and looked a bit better.

"We're still not there yet but it's a slow process to build up to the first game of the season and over the coming weeks now, I'll expect us to sharpen up and look livelier."

Huntbach scored the final goal of the evening, with Joe Tumelty (2), Pablo Haysham (2) and Anthony Robbins also on target.

Tumelty's second goal was an especially exquisite effort – the Bulls midfielder flicking the ball over his shoulder and into the net.

"We thought he was just dangling his leg at it, but he managed to hook it around over his shoulder and get a goal," said Beadle.

"I thought all the goals were pretty well worked, apart from the first one, which was a great bit of play but took a bit of a deflection."

Hereford midfielder Rob Purdie added that he knew the game would be a good workout for the Bulls.

"It's always going to be tough playing one of the local teams and Peggy have got one or two decent players," he said.

"We had to make sure that we didn't go into it like 'this is the first pre-season friendly, we'll ease ourselves in', we had to go in a little bit tougher and make it a proper game and it worked for us."

Purdie is pleased with the signings Hereford have made.

"I played against [Jamie] Cuss three times last season, everyone knows about him, [Jamie] Edge has dropped down a higher league play for us and Alex [Harris] did well at Cinderford last season, so we've brought in good, quality players.

"We've lost some good players in Mus [Mustapha Bundu] and Sid [Sirdic Grant] but hopefully the squad will take shape and we'll progress through pre-season."

Ross Staley had Hereford's first effort when he dragged his effort wide before Pegasus captain Cory Hyde blazed over.

The Bulls opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Tumelty deflected in Haysham's shot before Haysham made it 2-0 six minutes later.

Hereford had a chance to make it three in the 32nd minute after Haysham was deemed to have been clipped, but Mike Symons screwed his spot kick wide.

But the third goal did arrive five minutes later thanks to Tumelty's brilliant effort.

Hayssham made it 4-0 in the 61st minute before Robbins (85) and Huntbach (90) added late goals.
