HEREFORD City Skyblues (HCS) Under-12's are flying the flag for the city by winning the prestigious Wolverhampton Wanderers Jimmy Mullen Cup at Wolves.

The tournament, played on the hallowed pitch at Molineux was attended by teams from all over Birmingham and the area as well as Hereford City Skyblues.

And it was Hereford that won the trophy thanks to a dramatic winner in the final.

“Moments like that will stay with these boys forever and as a club, we're always encouraging our boys to test themselves against the very best opponents," said coach Dave Beaumont.

"These boys should be very proud of what they have achieved and continue to reach for the sky."

Hereford City Sky Blues topped their group in the league stages, winning every game, before prevailing in the quarter-finals 2-0.

A free-kick then won them the game in the semis before the dramatic winner in the final.

“When the ball hit the back of the net with 30 seconds to go, you can't imagine the lads faces as they run together to celebrate," added head coach Andie Cox.

“Many of our boys have played at development centres and academies like Hereford, Bristol Shrewsbury and West Brom, but to come out of the tunnel at Molineux for the final and play on the main pitch in the stadium was truly outstanding"

The Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Jim Kenyon, has now invited the team to a formal reception to celebrate their achievements.

HCS are looking for new Under-13 players for the new season in August.
