DEREK Williams says he is happy to stay at Wellington as manager and try and mount a promotion challenge in West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division.

Wellington have been largely inconsistent this season, but have consolidated their position in the league once again by finishing mid-table.

But Williams believes every team can harbour hopes of doing well next season and there is no reason why Wellington can not be right in the mix.

“I’m staying on at the moment, there’s just a few things to iron out at the club,” said Williams.

“We don’t pay at the club, so we need a bit more back-up with the youth side.

“I want to go and win it, that’s always been my ambition, but it’s not easy.

"The teams that win this league always have a bit a money, you only have to look at [Sporting] Khalsa, who finished third in the Midland League after winning our league last year.

“But, from the bottom the to the top, there can be nothing in it and I am sure every team next season will think they can win it.”

Wellington beat Willenhall Town 4-1 last Saturday thanks to two goals from Matt Williams and one each by Andy Price and Josh Hunt. But Tuesday night’s game at Wolverhampton Casuals was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Wellington are now awaiting to hear from the league whether the game will be played.

If it does go ahead and Wellington win or draw, they will jump up from 13th to 11th, giving them a better chance of entering next season’s FA Cup.

Pegasus Juniors, who are ninth, finished their campaign with a 2-1 defeat at third-from-bottom Wellington Amateurs.

Jamie Bloor put Amateurs ahead in the 17th minute before Hereford Under-18 prodigy Sam Oxley equalised for Pegasus just past the half-hour mark. But Anthony Reman won the game for the home side with four minutes to go.

Pegasus are also out of the League Cup after losing 2-0 to Wolverhampton Sporting Community at the quarter-final stage.

As expected, Bromyard Town failed to fulfil their last two fixtures following the departure of manager Nick Smith.

League chairman Wendy Juggins has said the league will be in contact with the club, but ultimately it is up to Bromyard as to what they want to do next season.

Hereford Lads Club are just one win away from promotion from Division One and can seal their Premier Division place this Saturday. Danny Moon’s side host Shenstone Pathfinders at the County Ground, kick-off 3pm.

Lads Club are a point ahead of AFC Ludlow in second place, but it is still unclear when Ludlow will play their rearranged game against Worcester Raiders.

Ms Juggins says it is up to the clubs to agree upon a date among themselves.
