HOLME Lacy FC manager Chris Ferriday said it was an honour to welcome former England international Peter Shilton to his club last week.

Shilton, who still holds the record number of appearances for the Three Lions having been capped 125 times, was a special guest at a charity match organised by Holme Lacy House Hotel. A team made up of Warners Hotel staff, beat a competitor from the north of England 6-2.

"He was very lovely and spoke to a lot of players and signed shirts," said Ferriday.

"He arrived at 2.30pm and left about an hour-and-a-half later to go to Holme Lacy House for a question and answer session.

"It was a great day.

Proceeds from the day went towards the Royal British Legion.

Both Holme Lacy's first team and reserve side saw their scheduled games postponed last Saturday.

The first team are currently second in Hereford Times Herefordshire Football League Division One.
