A LATE strike by Matt Williams saw Wellington earn a draw against Dudley Sports in West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division.

The point takes Derek Williams' side up to third in the league table, with many of the other sides in FA Vase action.

And with a home game against struggling Malvern Town this Saturday, Wellington have an ideal opportunity to cement their lofty position.

Welly took the lead after 15 minutes when Andy Price was on hand to pounce on a rebound after Ben Thomas' header hit a post.

They should have doubled their advantage when Josh Hunt beat two defenders but blasted his shot over the bar with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Further chances came their way in the second half, with both Steve Brotherwood and Adam Newbury going close.

And those missed opportunities would prove costly as Dudley Sports scored two quick-fire goals to turn the game around.

But with time running out, quick thinking from Newbury from a free-kick found Williams, who made no mistake.

Bromyard Town's scheduled game against Smethwick Rangers did not take place, meaning that Nick Smith's side are still near the foot of the table.

And it doesn't get easier, with an away game at leaders Haughmond next up.

Haughmond beat Bromyard 5-0 at Delahay Meadow last month.
