FORMER Bromyard Town and Westfields hotshot Jamie Insall is on the verge of joining Scottish Championship side Hibernian.

Insall, the leading scorer in the West Midlands (Regional)?League last season with 42 goals in all competitions, left Bromyard for Stourbridge in the summer and after an impressive pre-season was invited to play in a friendly for the Edinburgh club against Brentford Under-20s last week.

He scored one, made one and also hit the crossbar and has stayed in Scotland on trial with the club.

Crewe Alexandra were also believed to be interested but Hibs head coach Alan Stubbs looks to have first refusal on the services of the speedy 23-year-old striker.

Newly appointed Bromyard boss Nick Smith, who has stepped up after a change in work patterns forced Martin Stephens to stand down, said: “Hibs have put Jamie up in a hotel and I am told they are impressed with him.

"He is still working on his fitness levels but he warmed up with the first team before Saturday’s 3-0 League Cup win over Montrose, and spent the match watching from an executive box.”

The much-travelled Insall played for Archdales '73, Stourport Swifts, Redditch United, Westfields, Littletons, Pershore and Worcester Raiders before joining Bromyard.

Newly-promoted Bromyard, who bounced straight back after being relegated at the end of 2013-14, have also lost Richard Smith to Tividale but have signed the experienced ex-Worcester and Westfields midfielder Danny Scheppel, plus goalkeeper Al Goode, Jordan Crompton, Charlie Burrow, Matt Dobson and Shaq Tulloch.

They start with trips to Stone Old Alleynians on Saturday and Gornal on Tuesday.
