PEGASUS Juniors fought out a dogged 1-1 draw with runaway West Midlands (Regional)?League champions Sporting Khalsa at Old School Lane.

Khalsa, given a tunnel of honour by the Pegasus players before the game, dominated the first half possession but their free-scoring forwards, who have already topped the 125-goal mark in the Premier Division this season, were unable to penetrate a solid home defence.

Despite losing top-scorer Sam Pearson to injury after 15 minutes, Pegasus were always a threat on the counter and they came close to breaking the deadlock on 54 minutes when Ben Price fired inches wide.

Marvin Nisbett then blazed over the bar for the visitors before Pegasus rocked the champions by taking the lead in the 67th minute. Anthony Robbins sprayed a pass to Carl Horton and he beat Tim Jackson to cross. Price raced in between Khalsa’s two central defenders to steer a neat volley past Ben Czerepaninec.

Khalsa, who have lost only one league game all season and drew with Pegasus earlier in the season, continued to have the lion’s share of the ball and they finally conjured up an equaliser with 11 minutes left. Nicholas Campbell crossed for substitute Bradley Lawley to rise above the home defence and head home.

Wellington, fresh from beating Khalsa in the semi-finals of the League Cup, went nap in storming to a 5-2 victory at sixth-placed Shawbury, with the frustrated home side reduced to 10 men by a sending off.

Joe Lemar and Josh Hunt gave Welly the initiative as Shawbury, boasting the best two strikers in the division, quickly found themselves chasing the game.

A penalty from Paul Jones just before the break confirmed Wellington’s superiority and though ten-man Shawbury pulled one back, Jones responded with a well-taken second goal to make it 4-1.

A long-range second for the home side was then followed by Hunt adding his second and Wellington’s fifth with a great finish on the turn.

Wellington were due to travel to Haughmond last night.
