WESTFIELDS were hit for six on a sorry night at Loughborough University on Tuesday.

The Hereford side could have been two goals down in the opening 10 minutes were it not for inspired goalkeeping by Matt Gwynne.

But Welsh under-18 international Alun Webb then scored two fine individual goals to put Loughborough 2-0 up in the Midland Football League Premier Division game.

A fantastic free-kick from Craig Jones did reduce the deficit, but Westfields' task of getting back into the game became harder when Joel Edwards was sent off on the stroke of half time after bringing down a Loughborough player who was through on goal.

Webb again showed his prowess after the break by scoring two more goals before Westfields were reduced to nine men after Gwynne handled outside the penalty area.

The students then ran riot and scored a couple more goals past stand-in goalkeeper Jamie Cuss to round off a comprehensive 6-1 win.

Westfields went into the game on the back of a fine 3-1 away win at Boldmere St Michaels – with all the goals scored in the first half.

Luke Corbett opened the scoring after only four minutes for Westfields before Boldmere equalised against the run of play from the penalty spot after James Febery was adjudged to hand handled the ball in the area.

But Westfields re-grouped and went in front thanks to an Edwards header from Jones' free-kick.

Tom Boyle then made it 3-1 a minute later after being set up by Corbett.

Wellington also lost on Tuesday night after going down to 2-0 to runaway West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division leaders Sporting Khalsa.

The away side opened the scoring from the penalty spot after four minutes, but Wellington fought back well.

Paul Jones had a great chance to level the game after being set up by Matt Aubrey.

An own goal then saw Sporting Khalsa increase their lead before Wellington had two penalty claims waved away.
