A MARCUS Palmer goal saw Westfields beat second from bottom Dunkirk in Midland Football League Premier Division.

Westfields had the first chance of the game when Jamie Cuss found space 20 yards from goal before firing his shot inches wide of the right-hand post.

Within 13 minutes they were ahead after Palmer rolled the ball past Dunkirk goalkeeper Jake Want after controlling Zac Sirrell's long ball.

Westfields could have been 2-0 up, but James Febrey scuffed his shot wide when well placed.

Dunkirk started to pick up the pace again, with Westfields goalkeeper Harvey Rivers seeing an effort fizz past his goal line before the ball was cleared by a covering defender.

Westfields started the second half strongly and felt they had scored a second when Tom Boyle's effort rattled off the stanchion and onto the goal line.

But the referee adjudged the ball had not crossed the line.

Moments later, Joel Edwards saw his bullet header saved by Want as Westfields continued to pepper the Dunkirk goal.

Palmer then sent his effort over the bar after being set up by Cuss before the latter player had a glorious chance to settle the game.

But Cuss somehow shot wie from just four yards out.

Dunkirk's best chance came 10 minutes from the end when Carl Spencer produced an acrobatic save from Rivers.

Westfields were due to play Walsall Wood at allpay.park on Tuesday night, but the match was postponed due to an unplayable pitch.
