HEREFORD United In the Community are holding an open trial game tomorrow as they look to recruit their latest intake of youngsters.

The session takes place at the Robert Owen Academy in Blackfriars Street, with an open evening taking place at the same venue next Thursday.

Both events are at 5.30pm.

The course sees players train in a professional environment, compete in a national football league system in a team managed by former Hereford United player Rob Purdie, and work towards a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport.

Course tutor Adam Jones said: "We strive to challenge every player both in the classroom and on the pitch.

"The course aims to help build confidence so that they are ready to go onto university, apprenticeships or employment.”

Last week, the current crop of players put in their best display of the season to defeat favourites Oxford United 1-0 in the Quarter Final of the National Cup thanks to a goal from Tom Gameson.

Purdie said he could not have been prouder of the players, who will face Reading in the semi-final.

“I couldn't have been any prouder of the players," said Purdie.

"The Oxford manager said we were the best team they have played all season which is a huge compliment.”
