ONE of the men who helped set up Hereford City acknowledges that the team needs more players next season to have a chance of getting out of Hereford Times Herefordshire Football League Division Two.

Chris Marshall, who was a youth player at Cheltenham Town, formed the club alongside Russ Francis five years ago.

The side was initially called Wolseley FC and played in Credenhill.

They changed their name to Hereford City three years ago and are now based at Hereford Leisure Centre.

Their club logo is also similar to that of the former Hereford United.

"I knew a few people at Hereford United and got permission to use the same badge but with our name in.

"We managed to get into Division Two and hopefully next year we can get some more players and be more consistent to get up the leagues," said Marshall.

"It was a tough game against decent opposition.

"They had the better chances which they took.

Calum Coull, who scored City's only goal, added the team needs to sort out their defence to improve.

"We're set up pretty well and people know each other's positions, we're just not talking very well," he said.

The game was one of only a few to take place in the county.

Marshall said some teams are too hasty in calling games off.

"I used to play in the old days when, if there wa puddle in the goalmouth you carry on," he said.

"What's the harm in getting a bit wet?"
