Fownhope didn't let the wintery conditions affect their performance, stretching their unbeaten run to five games with a 4-1 victory over Tenbury United in the Hereford Times Premier Division.

It was a win which pleased Fownhope manager Phil Andrews who admitted after the game that his side had made a disappointingly slow start to the season. "We had a really poor start to the season, but we've managed to get going now with today's win making it four wins in five."

The home side dominated much of the opening exchanges, with man of the match Ryan Rowlett tormenting the right hand side of the Tenbury defence. But despite their dominance Fownhope were forced to shoot from distance in the early stages with both Richard Bufton and Ben Price seeing efforts from outside the box fail to seriously test Robert Farrar in the Tenbury goal.

In a rare foray into the Fownhope half Tenbury created one of the best openings of the first period. Ryan Morris working his way into the box before pulling the ball back to the edge of the six yard box, to his frustration there was little support and Fownhope cleared.

Twenty-six minutes in and Fownhope finally and deservedly broke the deadlock with a spectacular strike from centre back Sam Lewis. The former Hereford United youth team player picked up an unconvincing Tenbury clearance before firing home from 25 yards with a right footed curler.

Tenbury tried to respond immediately, Aaron Morris whipping in a dangerous free kick that narrowly avoided the outstretched legs of his team mates in the box.

With just 30seconds on the second half clock Fownhope almost doubled their lead when under pressure Tenbury defender Aaron Morris sliced his attempted clearance goalwards, thankfully for the defender 'keeper Farrar was on hand to save his blushes.

It didn't take long before Fownhope did find the back of the net again. Rowlett saw his cross from the left wing drift goalwards, beating the visiting 'keeper, but not the cross bar, substitute George Leyshon-James profiting inside the box to fire the rebound home as Tenbury failed to clear.

Tenbury tried to respond quickly, but again failed, this time Stocker seeing a well aimed effort gathered by Fownhope 'keeper Pearcy. The home side would punish the visitors for their lack of threat in front of goal moments later with wide man Price driving forward on the right hand side before crossing for Rowlett to side foot into the back of the net for a deserved goal.

With 20 minutes to go Tenbury saw their best move of the game almost result in a goal, but again Fownhope stood firm, this time 'keeper Pearcy blocking full back Farrs effort.

As full time approached Fownhope continued to take the game to the visitors and Rowlett was again unlucky not to get a second goal to his name, first of all seeing an effort deflect onto the post and away to safety, and then seeing a shot fly inches past the upright.

With just a minute of the game remaining Tenbury managed to make the most of some daydreaming amongst the Fownhope defence, with Macauley Stone getting on the scoresheet to claim a consolation goal for the visitors.

Fownhope responded instantly though, and it was Rowlett who capped a fine performance with a superb solo goal, skipping into the area before squeezing the ball past the unfortunate Tenbury 'keeper to seal a 4-1 win for his side.
