PRESTEIGNE'S Georgia Evans looks set for a big career in football with an international cap and appearances for Women's Super League Division One side Bristol Academy under her belt at the age of just 18.

The teenage midfielder has been at Bristol Academy since she was 15, making three substitute appearances in the Continental Cup as well as starting the match with Chelsea.

She has also won her first cap for Wales when she appeared against Slovakia last year.

Georgia has made rapid progress at Bristol and this has accelerated since the appointment as manager of Dave Edmondson, who had her a senior debut in the 9-2 Continental Cup win over Oxford United.

“I think I have come on a lot as a player since Dave has been manager here,” Evans said. “I am so pleased he has given me the opportunity and I just want to keep getting more minutes on the pitch now.”

There are plenty of sporting genes in the family with dad Gary having been a leading motocross rider and brother Zack, who played youth-team football at Cardiff before spending some time with Hereford United when they were a Football League club.

Georgia played hockey and netball at school but ultimately had to choose between motocross and football with the decision made when her potential was spotted by West Bromwich Albion where she spent two years.

She plays mostly as a holding midfield player but can play behind the striker, a position she occupied after coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

She is now well established at the club after moving away from home to live in Bristol at the age of 16.

“Moving away in my first year of college was a big step and I was nervous, but living with the girls and learning from older players has definitely brought me on,” she said.

She has complete a BTEC and aims to continue working at South Gloucester and Stroud College, ready to mark her first appearance in the Super League.

“I am coaching at the college now and I definitely want to stay at Bristol and keep playing for as long as Dave wants me,” she said.

“I have learned so much since Dave has been here."

Her career in the sport is also giving her a chance to broaden her horizons with some foreign travel.

She has already travelled to Turkey, Belarus, Finland, Moldova and Slovakia, where she won her first full cap in June 2013 after previously turning out for the international side at under-17 and under-19 level.

“It’s a great opportunity and experience to travel around Europe," she said. "I wasn’t expecting to win my first senior cap at such a young age, but I was absolutely buzzing and it is always an amazing feeling to sing the national anthem for your country.”

Georgia was in the Wales squad for the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifier against England in August and will be hoping to be in the plans of new Wales manager Jayne Ludlow.

The travel theme continues at club level where Bristol have qualified for the UEFA Women's Champions League tournament after finishing runners-up in the FAWSL last season.

They travel to face un-seeded Irish side Raheny United FC in the first round tonight with the home leg at Bristol City’s ground Ashton Gate next Thursday.

“I cant wait to travel to Dublin with the team and hopefully give a good performance and get a win," she said.

"I have never been away with Bristol before and am looking forward to this fantastic experience.

“We have the home leg in Bristol which is on my birthday.

"So I am hoping to make it a birthday to remember put in a good performance and get qualification to the second stage.

“If we win the first stage we could be playing against either Barcelona or Prague, which again would be amazing."
