HINTON manager Graham Andrews believes his side could win some silverware this season.

The Hereford side are fifth in Herefordshire Football League Premier Division following a 2-0 win against Tenbury United last Saturday and trail leaders Westfields Reserves by five points.

But Andrews hopes the team can now push on challenge at the top end of the table, starting with this Saturday’s home game against Orleton Colts.

“We are an attacking side and play attacking football,” said Andrews.

“Hopefully that will put us in the top half of the table for the rest of the season.

“But we want to finish top like everyone does and we want every cup to have Hinton’s colours on it.

“That is what we are after and we will try and win something this year.

“We are really happy to get three points against Tenbury, who are a really strong side.

“We knew they were going to come and give us a real battle because they’ve got some really good players .

“To come out in the second half, we were really confident that we would get three points and are delighted with the win.”

Hinton secured the points with two second half goals through Brad Matthews and Callum Ditchfield, but they had to work hard for the win.

Ditchfield tried his luck from distance in the 12th minute, but it drifted wide, before Dean Drezewski missed the target 15 minutes later after being one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Tenbury only threatened sporadically and found it difficult to test Hinton goalkeeper Jon Pugh.

The away side’s chances of getting three points were hit shortly before half-time when midfielder Mike Foster had to leave the field after twisting his knee.

Hinton then came out stronger after the break and opened the scoring in the 66th minute when substitute Brad Matthews lobbed opposing keeper Sean Baldwin from just outside the area.

Andrews said he was delighted that Matthews was back on the scoring trail.

“We were really pleased for him because he has had a rough time recently by not getting many goals, so to see him get one was great,” said Andrews.

“He worked really hard and I’m really pleased for him.”

Ditchfield secured the win for Hinton 12 minutes from time from the penalty spot after Gaz Edwards fouled Dean Drezewski.

“I always go the same way every single time,” said Ditchfield.

“I have gone three seasons now without missing so hopefully it continues.

“I never practice them in training.

“I just concentrate and go the same way every time.

“It’s just about confidence, putting the ball down, don’t look at the keeper, run back and hit it.

“That was my first game in centre midfield because I usually play centre-half.

“I thought I preferred to play in defence, but after playing centre-midfield, I enjoy it better.

“I like the fact that you can go forward more and it’s a lot harder work.”

Thai Craft had a great chance to make it 3-0 in the 84th minute, but saw his effort smothered by Baldwin, before Tenbury’s Ian Patterson failed to get a shot in after being set up by Ashley Giles.

“We were playing really well in previous matches, but unfortunately we have given some games away in that we have been in comfortable leads and they we let oppositions back into them,” said Andrews.

“We had a great game against Westfields Reserves and dominated large periods of the game, but couldn’t score a goal.

“So, against Tenbury, we were confident that we would score goals.”
