SOME of the country's top women players showed off their skills at Hereford Academy last week.

Natalia Pablos Sanchon, Keka Vega and Georgia Evans, from Bristol Academy Women's Football Team, and Aston Villa Ladies' players Masie Baker and Hayley Crackle all took part in a free football festival.

They enjoyed friendly games on the target shot, speed cage and batak board and even had a go at refereeing.

The event was sponsored by Continental Tyres.

"I think it's fantastic that they're being introduced at this age and it's good that Continental put it on," said Crackle.

"The girls really enjoyed it and I enjoyed it as well.

"Waiting in the queue to take part in the games, I wanted to push in front.

"I wish we had this when I was younger and I love it now.

"Women's football has grown so much and I'm excited to se it grow."

A total of 317 girls participated in the festival, which ran alongside UEFA's Grassrotts Day.

It was led by FA approved coaches and included skills and drills and interactive games.

A refereeing workshop was also delivered and girls had the chance to pose with the FA Women's Super League (WSL) Trophy, the Cyprus Cup and the FA WSL Continental Cup.

The FA WSL's Mascot Berry the Bear also joined in the fun alongside Hereford United's Edgar the Bull.

"It was a really good day and to see all the girls taking part, there's been some really good talent," said Evans.

"We came to try and promote women's football and the girls that have picked up an interest can join a club, watch their local FA WSL club or the Women's FA Cup Final on Sunday.

"Hopefully that will inspire them to continue their interest."
