GOALKEEPER David Hope probably thought that keeping a clean sheet would be his job done with Ewyas Harold in vital need of three points to maintain their title challenge.

But the stopper took things a step further by scoring the goal that sealed the win over Pegasus Reserves.

The goalkeeper, who has scored before but while playing an outfield role for the club, launched a massive kick from out of his hands which bounced once and flew over his helpless counterpart Billy Taylor in the Pegasus goal.

“Well, it’s not something I practise,” Hope joked. “I had a strong wind behind me which helped and it’s ended up going over their keeper's head.

"It’s just one of those things really and I didn’t really want to celebrate because I know how their keeper would have been feeling, seeing that one go in.”

Captain Owen Lloyd was quick to praise Hope not only for his “wonder” goal but for the form he has shown this season, saying that he has played a vital part in this year’s title bid.

“To be fair to him he’s had an absolutely fantastic season, so I think the goal puts a little bit of icing on the cake for him," said the skipper.

"He’s been a rock for us between the sticks and, as a centre-back, I know that I can trust him to be there when we need him to be.

"The only bad thing about it is he’s now scored more goals than me this season!”
