Ellesmere Rangers 3 Wellington 0

BAR a mathematical miracle, Wellington are assured of a top-10 finish in the West Midlands League Premier Division despite a clear defeat at Ellesmere.

The Herefordshire side had the better of the chances in the first-half when they played well against the wind.

Aaron Morgan and Josh Hunt both had good opportunities to open the scoring but were unable to convert before the home side opened the scoring a minute before the break.

The Wellington defence were deceived by a free-kick and a home striker scored.

The visitors pressed strongly in the second half but were unable to break through.

Ben Fischer had the best of the openings, blasting over from six yard, before Wellington were caught out with two late goals as they went looking for an equaliser.

Previously, the villagers secured a 2-1 win at Wednesfield with goals from Morgan and Paul Jones.

They now need just a single point from their remaining four matches to guarantee ending the season in the top 10.
