BROMYARD FC wore a borrowed playing kit from neighbours Pencombe – because their own strip clashed with the colours of finalists Woofferton.

“We only started up last season our club colours are blue and black and the blue clashed with Woofferton’s kit,” explained manager Matt Beale, a former Westfields player.

“We have only got one kit and Woofferton did not want to change their kit so we asked Pencombe to borrow their kit and they obliged.”

Beale, 34, was asked to manage the senior side before the start of last season and has been delighted with the outcome.

“We have got all the Bromyard lads together and, after an excellent first season, we are hoping to get promoted from Herefordshire League Division Two.

“When you’re at Westfields you’re playing with the best players in the county. I won the West Midlands League Premier Division with Westfields and five County Challenge Cups.

“It’s harder when you’re running a team with local lads but we can progress if they are willing to listen and learn.”

Beale felt some of his players had frozen in the first half of Wednesday’s final

“At half-time, I told them that, if we were going to lose, then let’s go out with a bit of fight.”

He added: “Little Jack Muirhead has only just turned 17 and he played upfront with Chris Jefferson.

“He ran his socks off and he had a few great shots and he’s a big, strong boy. We have also had a couple of lads on the bench who are 16 years old and we couldn’t get on. But they have played their part in the league through the season.”
