St Martins 0 Bartestree 4
BARTESTREE boss Dave Cadwallader was delighted after his team handed him the Valentine's Day gift of three West Midlands League Division One points with a conclusive win.
The victory keeps the villagers in second place in the table, five points clear of Haughmond, although the Shropshire side have five games in hand.
"Our second-half performance was fantastic and we could have scored more than four goals," he said.
"We only have six league games left and we hope to finish t he last leg of the season on a high and retain second place come the end of the season."
Only missed Bartestree chances and good goalkeeping kept the match, played in Oswestry at the home of Welsh Premier League champions TNS, goalless at the interval.
But the visitors were quickly on the goal trail at the start of the second period when Mark Hibbard played in Darren Andrews whose shot was parried to Scott Turner who made no mistake from 15 yards.
Shortly afterwards, Kiea Cowley was brought down in the area after moving on to a pass from Gareth Bowley and got up to convert the penalty.
Bartestree keeper Jon Hopkins made a fine save to preserve the two-goal advantage before Mark Avery launched a 35-yarder into the top corner of the net to register goal number three.
Mark Langford had an attempted lob well saved before rounding off the scoring when he was played in by Andrews.
This Saturday sees Ledbury Town visit Bartestree in a Herefordshire county derby.
