Wem Town 3 Bartestree 1

BOGEY-side Wem ended Bartestree's aspirations in the West Midlands League Division One Cup at the first-round stage.

The Shropshire side had already completed a league double over the villagers and repeated their success in the knock-out competition.

Bartestree included new signings Dale Lewis and the former Westfields and Hereford United midfielder Mark Hibbard in an end-to-end game which saw chances for both sides.

The Bartestree goal came from a free-kick well executed by Mark Langford but the home side were also successful from two free-kicks.

"The finish for Wem's third goal would have been appreciated at any Premiership game," said Bartestree manager Dave Cadwallader. "All goalkeeper Jon Hopkins and the Bartestree team could do was watch in admiration."

Second-in-the-table Bartestree expect to welcome back Dan Hill, Scott Turner, James Upcott for Saturday's home game against Stone Old Alleynians.
