Bartestree win 2-1 at Shenstone in West Midlands League Division One

Shenstone 1 Bartestree 2

BARTESTREE boss Dave Cadwallader is urging his players to save their partying for Saturday nights.

The high-flyers are second in West Midlands League Division One and host fourth-placed Wem Town this weekend.

Scott Turner blasted a second-half penalty-kick over the bar and Cadwallader says his players' attitude needs to be better.

He said: "We had five players missing from the previous match, one didn't turn up and, in the 11 that did start, a number of players played with a hang-over.

"Even with this poor start we still managed to gain three points and create numerous chances.

"But we must learn to finish teams off when chances come our way and not put ourselves under pressure."

Cadwallader added: "With us missing numerous chances it looked we felt Shenstone could level and Jon Hopkins made a great save in the 90th minute."

It was Bartestree's 13th win from 18 league matches and they are now fourth points ahead of second-placed Haughmond.

Bartestree started last weekend's match confidently and broke the deadlock after 10 minutes.

Kiea Cowley ran at the Shenstone defence and passed for strike partner Dan Hill to headed home.

But Shenstone hit back in the 22nd minute through Marc Avery's own goal.

The unlucky Avery rose for a defensive header only for the ball to come off his head and into the top corner.

Bartestree regained the lead soon afterwards, Cowley surging forward and slamming home a shot from 18 yards.

Cowley should have added a third when he rounded the Shenstone goalkeeper but somehow shot wide.

The lively Cowley was brilliantly denied by the home stopper early in the second period after a neat ball from Hill.

Hill's header hit the foot of a post and Turner drilled over a penalty kick after Avery was brought down in the box.
