DEFENDER Josh Pugh believes Aaron Turner can lift Hereford Lads Club’s fortunes.

Pugh says Turner’s return from injury cannot come quickly enough for the city side.

“We can’t score goals at the moment – we are not getting the ball forward quickly enough,” said 24-year-old Pugh.

“We knock it around the midfield but we are not hurting teams and we can’t seem to win in an ugly fashion.

“We have missed Aaron Turner – he’s out injured at the moment and we could do with him back.

“He scores goals and that’s what we need.

“Mike Olive has been a big loss since he broke his leg last season – we are creating chances but we are wasteful in front of goal.”

Pugh, a former Wellington player, says Lads Club are finding it tough against robust opposition.

“We are a small side and we are not strong enough when we’re coming up against powerful centre-halves and tall players,” he said.

“Our home form has been terrible this season. We seem to play better when we go away from home.

“But I have played with Danny Moon for seven or eight years now and this club is the place to be.

“We need to get ourselves out of this rut and I think next year will be a good year for us.”

Pugh said he didn’t think Tom Harding’s penalty-miss was a key moment in last Saturday’s defeat against Hanwood.

“It would not have mattered too much had we scored the penalty,” admitted Pugh.

“We didn’t play very well and were beaten by a team who were better than us on the day”
