Chris Mortlock hits hat-trick in Pegasus Juniors' 4-0 home win over Shifnal Town in West Midlands League Premier Division
CHRIS Mortlock’s second-half hat-trick fired Pegasus Juniors to a 4-0 home win over Shifnal Town in the West Midlands League Premier Division.
Cory Hyde also netted for Pegasus, who host county rivals Wellington in a league derby at Old School Lane next Tuesday.
Manager Chris Hyde was delighted with Pegasus’ first clean-sheet since early September.
Pegasus took the lead through Mortlock in the 46th minute after a fine cross from Anthony Robbins and they didn’t look back.
Keith Jones, Kane Kahaki and Zac Brimble were all influential in setting up Pegasus’ goals.
Strikes from Joe Lemar and Aaron Morgan led Wellington to a hardfought 2-1 home win over Bustlehome.
Winger Paul Jones gave a fine display for Wellington, who were also indebted to goalkeeper Matt Eden, for two superb saves.
Saul Thomas set up Lemar’s opener and Morgan’s low drive doubled the villagers’ lead before the visitors hit back prior to the break.
Bromyard Town also had a good afternoon, sealing a 1-0 home success over bottom-of-the-table Bartley Green.
Two second-half defensive lapses sentenced Westfields to a 2-1 defeat at Kirby Muxloe in the Midland Alliance.
And the Hereford club will be hoping for better in this Saturday’s FA Vase first-round home clash with Bromsgrove Sporting.
Westfields’ goalkeeper Matt Gwynne kept his side in the game with a series of first-half wonder saves.
Jamie Allen put Kirby ahead after a poor clearance from Craig Jones.
But new-signing Jamie Insall levelled from the penalty spot after Brad Birch had been fouled.
Birch, however, turned villain soon afterwards allowing Tony Marriott to put Kirby Muxloe 2-1 in front.
Westfields almost grabbed a late equaliser when Worcester City loanee Danny Williams’ rattled the crossbar.
A red card for Hereford Lads Club defender Dale Richards inspired Danny Moon’s men to a 6-1 home win over Mahal in West Midlands League Division One.
Lads Club were leading 2-0 when Richards was controversially dismissed for a professional foul.
Mahal scored from the resulting spotkick but Lads Club turned their annoyance at the red card into goals.
Steve Dixon and substitute Bobby Terrett both bagged braces, while Tom Harding and Josh Pugh were also on target.
Man-of-the-match Matt Evans set up the hosts’ last goal after gliding through three tackles. Lads Club host Bartestree this Saturday.
Paul Mann’s Ledbury Town worked hard but conceded two late goals in a 4-0 home defeat against leaders AFC Bridgnorth.
Ledbury’s best goal-scoring chances fell to Dan Herbert, captain Ian Merrick and Jamie Welch.
