Sam Pearson brace earns Leominster Town a point against Haughmond

Leominster Town 2 Haughmond 2.

THREE teams played a blinder on one pitch; two turned up to play football, another got the game on.

Together they brought out one of the best games seen at Briarwood in some time.

Town’s ground staff made a pitch, unplayable at first light, game ready by midday but, by half-time, it hardly seemed worthwhile after Haughmond stormed into a two-goal lead.

But, straight from the off, Sam Pearson ran onto a three-quarter through ball to slot home before pulling the same play on the hour to put Town level.

The presence of Jim Panniers between the posts gave Town’s resolute back four the confidence to get a second-ball game going, working the wings with pace.

By the end a draw was arguably fair, though the width of a post was the difference between all three as Town’s Sam Thomas shot wide with minutes to go.

Town are on a run that finally has them fulfilling their potential at the tail-end of a season that has done them few favours. That form faces yet another tough test on Saturday when Town take on title-chasing Wem away.
