Wellington beat Dudley Sports but lose goalscorer Aaron Morgan
1:30pm Wednesday 20th March 2013 in Football
Wellington 2 Dudley Sports 1.
Wellington gained three welcome West Midlands League Premer Division points but may have to do without Aaron Morgan for a few matches after the goalscorer was forced off with injury.
“Aaron led the attack very well, set up one goal and scored the other,” said Wellington chairman Phil Smith. “But he had to come off with a hamstring injury after he scored the winner and it looks as if he will be out for a while.”
Wellington had to rally after conceding a goal with just three minutes played.
“The Dudley centre-forward Ryan Jenkins burst through to score with a left-foot shot past Matt Eden,” said Smith. “I think our defenders were still in the changing room.”
Dean Price, however, brought Wellington back on level terms, scoring after a neat interchange with Morgan. Ben Fischer missed a couple of good chances to score before Morgan sealed the points 15 minutes from the end.
“Aaron went on a solo run into the area,” said Smith. “He almost went down but rounded the goalkeeper and scored from an acute angle.
“It was a good goal but he felt his hamstring when he went down and he had to come off straightaway.”
Despite the loss of Morgan, Smith was pleased with the afternoon’s work. “It was a good performance and a good win,” he said. “We played very well.”
