Westfields 3 Heath Hayes 0
WESTFIELDS warmed up for Tuesday night’s Midland Alliance League Cup semi-final against Boldmere St Michaels with a comfortable win over struggling Heath Hayes yesterday (Saturday).
The fifth-placed Hereford club sealed the league points with three goals in 30 minutes and they can now look forward to the trip to Boldmere in the first leg of the league cup semi-final.
The second leg of the Boldmere tie is at Westfields on March 19 and the winners will meet either Loughborough or Tipton Town in the final at Walsall.
Against second-bottom Heath Hayes, Craig Jones fired Wesfields ahead with an angled drive in the sixth minute.
Aidan Thomas struck the second goal in the ninth minute and he put the result beyond doubt with the hosts’ third with a low volley after 30 minutes.
The striker was close to completing his treble but defender Dale Roberts deflected his goal-bound shot over the bar.
Jones rattled a post and Jamie Cuss, Sam Gwynne and skipper Phil Glover all went close to finding the net for Westfields before the interval.
The visitors were much harder to break down in a scrappy second half and Matt Gwynne was forced into making a reaction save to keep out the battling visitors.
Westfields looked in control and Jones hit the bar as the hosts were frustrated.
Westfields’ Will Loughman told the Hereford Times: “It’s pleasing to get the win – we want to get into the top four and we’ve got that in our sights. We want to finish as high as we can.”
