RACING ace Richard Johnson has realised his dream of finally winning the British Jump Jockeys Championship.
The 38-year--old, from near Pembridge, has dominated the standings this season after Sir Anthony McCoy announced his retirement last year.
Johnson – who had been runner-up 16 times – has notched up 228 winners this season, 98 more than his nearest challenger Aidan Coleman.
He will be presented with a newly-designed trophy by McCoy at Sandown Park this Saturday.
"I’m thrilled that I’m going to be crowned champion jockey," Johnson said in his Betway Insider blog, adding he was glad the Championship wasn't as close as the trainers' one.
"I’ve always wanted to do it and it’s great that the dream will become a reality at Sandown on Saturday.
"I’ve got a busy week this week, but I’m obviously really looking forward to Sandown on Saturday, It will be a great day.
"I’ve had a lot of support this season and it really couldn’t have gone much better.
"One thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be going all out to defend my title next term.
"It starts again at Towcester next Thursday.
"It’s a bit weird going from 200-odd winners straight back to zero, but I can’t wait for it to kick off again."
