HEREFORDSHIRE Over-50s wound up their season with a rare success when they beat Nomads Cricket Club from Kensington by six wickets at Eastnor .

Victories for the county age-group side have been so rare in recent seasons that this was the first time that Janet Herbert, the team’s scorer for several seasons, had scored a winning match.

The perennial strugglers are looking to boost their squad for next year and two newcomers, Peter Rebera from Bristol, who hit 75 not out, and John Hartley, with 45 and 2-28 starred in the success over the Londoners, for whom skipper Tom Brockton made an unbeaten 106, including 16 fours.

Anyone interested in playing for the over-50s next season should contact Kevin Smith, who skippered the side and kept wicket against Nomads, on 07968 505393 or by emailing thevale54@gmail.com, or Peter Hoare on (01568) 613055 or 07941 571721.

“We are looking for players aged 50 or over who are playing regular club cricket,” said Smith.

“We have organised a tour to Devon for next year when we shall be playing three matches.”
