Colwall beat Pershore to move out of Worcestershire League Division 1 drop zone

FINE bowling by Dylan Marshall and Damien Berry has helped Colwall move out of the Worcestershire County League Division One relegation zone.

Marshall (6-21) and Berry (4-38) cut an impressive swathe through the Pershore batting line-up as the Malvern Hills club sealed a 130-run victory.

The Colwall duo, however, did not produce the best figures of the match, a distinction which belonged to Pershore’s Timothy Smith (8-57).

But good batting from Dan Head (45), skipper James Abel (42) and Dan McKay (39) ensured that the home side reached a useful 218-9 from their 50 overs.

Bromyard have fallen back to seventh place in the table after they let slip a winning position against Droitwich Spa.

With Ash Bullock (38), skipper Zahid Saeed (36), Edd Oliver (21) and Luke Ledbury (20) all contributing usefully, Bromyard reached 155.

And that looked as if it would be more than enough when Dinusha Fernando (3-58) and Greg Leighton (2-21) reduced the home side to 24-5.

From there on, however, there was no further joy for the visitors as Max Young (91 not out) and Paul Bryan (38 no) guided the hosts to victory without further loss.

Neither Burghill and Tillington nor Wormelow were able to get on the field in Division Two with their respective clashes at Romsley and Hunnington and home to Alvechurch and Hopwood falling victim to the wet conditions.

There was disappointment, too, for Ross-on-Wye who lost the lead in Division Four after a 16-run reverse at Bromsgrove 3rd.

The Ross bowlers did their bit by restricting the home side to just 97 with Adam McLarty (4-22) leading the way.

Wickets fell steadily, though, in the Ross response and the lower order had little answer to Paul Husbands, whose 4-25 included a hat-trick.

In the Second Xl competition, performance of the day came in Burghill and Tillington’s five-wicket home defeat by Romsley and Hunnington.

Burghill’s promising teenage batsman Barney Morgan compiled 67 of his side’s 116 and was the only home player to get into double-figures.
