Another washout for Herefordshire's club cricketers

HEREFORDSHIRE’S cricketers again had a quiet weekend with only three matches beating the weather across the various league programmes.

Bromyard were glad to steal a march on most of their rivals in Division One of the Worcestershire County League when they secured a 56-run win over Pershore.

Scoring runs was never going to be easy for Bromyard after they were put in to bat in damp conditions at the Worcestershire club’s headquarters.

But steady, if unspectacular, scoring through the order saw six players get into double figures.

Dave Taylor batted for 87 balls for his top score of 19 as the visitors reached 123-9 from their 50 overs.

Greg Leighton (2-25) picked up a couple of early wickets in the Pershore reply but the star of the show was Sri Lankan Test player Dinusha Fernando who returned his best bowling figures for the Flagonners Green club.

He finished with 4-25 as Pershore were bowled out for just 67, leaving Bromyard in a three-way tie for top spot.

Elsewhere in Division One, Herefordshire CCC’s Steve Adshead set a new highest-score record when he blasted an undefeated 240 for Astwood Bank against Worcester Nomads.

Adshead’s innings contained 30 fours and 10 sixes.

Wormelow were glad to get in a game at Stourport but the result certainly did not go their way as the home side secured an eight-wicket success to move to the top of the table.

Tom Bevan (15), Jamie Langford (15) and skipper Tim Boulter (12) were the only players in double-figures as the Kennel Field men were skittled for 78.

Stourport eased to their target in under 24 overs for the loss of only two wickets.
