ENGLAND spin-bowling legend Derek Underwood proved a popular visitor to the county last week with two well-supported talks in Leominster and Hereford.

After addressing one of John Beaman’s popular sporting evenings at the Rankin Club in Leominster, one of Herefordshire Cricket Society’s biggest ever audiences heard the former Kent star speak at the Farmers Club.

Underwood, a veteran of 86 Tests over a period of 16 years, spoke entertainingly of his long career, his period as president of the MCC and his role as patron of the Primary club, instigated after obtaining a ‘king pair’ in a day against Yorkshire, bowled by Fred Trueman on each occasion.
