MATT MORGAN bagged nine wickets in Canon Frome’s 85-run home win over Alveley in Division 4 of the W o r c e s t e r s h i r e County League.

Man-of-the-match Morgan finished with remarkable figures of 9-57 from 13 overs as he single-handedly dismissed Alveley for 167.

Kitt Smith took the other wicket to fall as Frome sealed a convincing triumph which belied their position at the bottom of the table.

Earlier, Smith (69) and Paul Andrews (52) had provided the backbone of Frome’s 249 all out with a third-wicket stand of 144.

An unbeaten century from Jack Evans guided promotion-chasing Ross-on-Wye to an emphatic seven-wicket success at Old Elizabethans 3rd in Division 5.

In reply to the Worcester club’s respectable 244-7 at Neel Park, opener Evans struck a dominant 130 not out to sweep Ross to the target with 14 overs to spare.

Previously, spinner Gabriel Warwick took 3-65 as Emil Martyr (48 not out), Graeme Norton (43) and Ollie Hills (42) contributed for the hosts.

Colwall maintained their Division 2 promotion bid with a hard-fought winning draw against county rivals Wormelow at Stowe Lane.

Opener Tom Coleman (90), 18-year-old Sam Crichard (44), Nick Panniers (36) and Tim Riley (36) weighed in for Colwall, who posted 268-7.

Spinner Jeewan Puri (4-86) was Wormelow’s most successful bowler and he was backed up by Ian Herbert (2-50).

In-form Wormelow skipper Tim Boulter (51) and wicketkeeper Tom Bevan (33) gave the visitors hope after the interval but they lost wickets.

Mike King (3-32 from 17 overs) and Damien Berry (3-32) made life difficult for the visitors’ batsmen and Wormelow closed on 203-8.

Monmouth allrounder David Teague suffered a serious finger injury in their high-scoring losing draw at Netherton.

Teague sustained the injury in holding a powerfully-struck return catch off his own bowling and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

The former Newport and Llanarth allrounder hasn’t found Netherton a happy hunting ground - he suffered a similar injury a couple of years ago.

A maiden first-team half-century from Ben Turner (79 not out) and in-form Kiwi Fraser Kilgour (75) were the highlights of Monmouth’s 245-7.

The Welshmen fell 44 runs short of the Dudley club, who piled up 289-5 in a powerful batting display with leading contributions from Troy Lee (62) and Paul Harris (55).

Burghill & Tillington’s bowlers were put to the sword by a rampant Hagley side who raced to 380-5 at Brick House Farm.

Ajmad Ali plundered 111 not out from just 55 balls after openers Simon James (62) and Joe Lennon (57) had given the leaders a flying start.

It was a sobering afternoon for Burghill, who had just come back from their annual tour. Jack Hale hit 67 as Burghill secured a losing draw as they replied with 215-8.

An unbeaten century from Sri Lankan Dinusha Fernando (113 not out) and Zahid Saeed’s undefeated 75 steered Bromyard to an eight-wicket success at Bewdley in Division 1.

Nick Wilkinson (74) and Ben Jones (50) led Bewdley to 240-6, but Bromyard romped to the target with 25 balls remaining.
