VETERANS Gerald Morgan and Rob Wall starred with bat and ball respectively as Builth Wells secured a dramatic six-run win in a highscoring game at Bosbury, to keep their GB Liners Marches League Division 1 title hopes alive.
Opener Morgan scored 110 to help his side reach a total of 237-6. Wall came on to take two wickets after Bosbury had made a good start and then doubled his tally with two more when things got tight at the end. Bosbury were bowled out for 231 with one ball to go.
Luctonians consolidated their position at the top of the table with an easy eight-wicket win at local rivals Shobdon.
For the second weekend running, Ian Probert (78) fought a lone battle with the bat for a struggling Shobdon side. They were bowled out for 129 with Paul Davies (4-31), Max Cheek (3-25) and Angus Light (2-16) causing the problems.
The father-and-son combination of Duncan (36) and James Platford (66no) saw the leaders home in 22 overs.
Garnons bounced back from their defeat the previous weekend, easily chasing down Crickhowell’s total of 220-8. They cruised home in 32 overs with seven wickets in hand.
Jonny Andrews was the star, taking 5-41 with the ball in the first innings, backed up by an unbeaten century.
Alan Jones scored 81.
Goodrich kept their championship hopes alive with a 122-run win over visiting Bartestree & Lugwardine.
Skipper Andrew Brown led from the front, making 72 of the south Herefordshire side’s 190.
James O’Brien (5-36), Mark Bradford (3-24) and Rufus Davies (2-0) then skittled Bartestree out for just 68, with Dave Robinson (28) scoring the bulk of the runs.
Ben Simpkin and James Nixon took three wickets apiece for the losers.
Kington went down by four wickets at Glangrwyney after they were bowled out for 135.
Opener Wayne Morgan top-scored with 26 for Kington. His colleagues struggled against Ben Bowker (4-42) and his father Phil (3-36).
Mike Parker (45) and Tom Grubb (26) steered the Welsh side to victory.
Goodrich are through to the semi-final stage of the Knockout Cup after they pulled off a fivewicket win in a high scoring quarter-final tie at Weobley.
